The shavings of this fine, oil-rich wood are used in traditional incense blends in Far East Asia. This species, Cupressus funebris, is found throughout southern China and Vietnam, offering woody, sharp, and green notes of pine and cedar. Cupressus funebris leaves a soft fibrous and potent incense powder that be used sparingly, burned on its own or used as the perfect ingredient for your own incense blends. We source our incense powders from traditional merchants in Vietnam, who teach us a great deal about how their trees are sustainably cultivated for sacred cultural applications as well as highly prized timber.
