This species of myrrh packs a bitter and powerful punch with notes of sweetness and charred sugar underpinning a sharp and smokey pitch. Commiphora kataf has a less traditional bearing on incense despite the tree being prevalent Eastern and tropical Africa, as well as the west of the Arabian Peninsula. It's resin is made up of a wide range of important compounds that are used in both perfumes and extracts. This is an important resin for incense collectors as an example of the breadth and complexity of Commiphora. When burned, it conveys dark and bitter notes of chocolate, camphor, wood, and balsam.
