Boswellia occulta incense resin - New frankincense species
In 2019, botanists officially identified Boswellia occulta, a frankincense-producing species native to the hills of Sanaag, Somaliland. The tears are beautiful and multicoloured, often unusually dark and smoky. The largest pieces showing an exciting depth of colour. The scent profile lies somewhere between Boswellia sacra and Boswellia papyrifera, with top notes reminiscent of both. When burned, the resin conveys a woody and powdery frankincense body, with a smokiness of apple wood, not unlike a vintage masculine perfume.
