The rainforests of Peru offer an abundance of traditional incense resins, often derived from the Protium family, which is closely related to the more common copal-yielding Bursera. When burned, the resin of Protium amazonicum produces fragrant, powdery citrus notes, reminiscent of lemon sherbet, alongside mystical refreshing green notes of the Amazon. The resin itself is light and easily broken up into fine grains and pieces.
Today, the ancient resin trade offers a sustainable source of income for Peru's indigenous people.
