Protium amazonicum produces some of the most surprisingly fragrant incense resin in all of the Americas. Though it is not the most attractive of copals, its scent is extremely well defined, with powdery, piney, and citrus top notes over delicate woody base. This is not like Mexican copal, which has a strong lemony scent owing to its genus. Protium is something quite different, and one will be surprised at the clarity of the scent.
